Paniyaram |Kuzhi Paniyaram
Paniyaram as known in kerala and Kuzhi paniyaram in Tamil Nadu are small ball shaped golden dumplings made with the idli/dosa batter. It can be enjoyed as a breakfast item or just as a snack and pairs beautifully with the coconut chutney or a spicy hot chutney.
So lets dive into the recipe of making the delicious , crisp , golden paniyaram.
2 Cups Idli Batter
2 tbsp Grated Coconut(fresh)
1 Medium Onion finely Chopped
1-2 Green Chilli finely chopped
1 tsp Ginger finely chopped
4-5 Curry leaves washed and finely chopped
Salt if required
Oil or ghee For Cooking Paniyaram
Method
1. Take 2 cups of Idli/Dosa batter in a mixing bowl. Add grated coconut, onion, chopped chilli , curry leaves and ginger into the batter and mix well.
2.Add salt if the idli batter does not have salt previously added to it.
3. The Paniyaram batter has to be medium-thick , so if the batter looks thick, you can add some water and if thin, you can add some rice flour.
4.Heat the paniyaram or cavity pan. Brush oil in each mould. When the pan is hot, pour the prepared paniyaram batter into each mould. Drizzle some ghee or oil.
5.Cover & cook for 2 to 3 minutes on low flame. Turn each paniyaram with the help of a wooden skewer or spoon and allow the other side to get cooked , crisp and golden. Take out cooked paniyaram
6.Serve the yummy hot Paniyaram with Coconut Chutney and enjoy.
