Healthy Tiramisu Cake - An Honest Review

Dessert is always the best part of any meal, and it's a chance to indulge in something sweet and rich, and a great way to end a meal. There are lots of popular desserts but one of my all time favourite has to be the tiramisu cake . The traditional Tiramisu Cake is made of genoise cake layers brushed with coffee and filled with creamy  mascarpone cream. Finally finished off  with a sprinkle of chocolate/coco powder or just chocolate shavings.

So, what about  substituting some of the ingredients for something healthier? Yes you heard me right - a healthier version of the ever rich and delictable tiramisu cake and I found the perfect recipe for you and you will need just  need 10 ingredients!  The recipe comes from the blog of Fit Food Wizard and for the full recipe click on this link👉Fit Tiramisu Recipe

This fitness Tiramisu by @fit_food_wizard is a twist on the classic Tiramasu cake with the sponge cake being replaced with a flourless oats and almond flour cake brushed with coffee and the mascarpone being substituted with protein rich - greek yogurt and finally the cake is finished off with some sprinkle of coco powder and chocolate shavings. The tiramisu cake is not overly sweet and strikes a nice balance of being a bit sweet from the honey and jaggery with a touch of bitterness from the coffee and coco  and every once in a while you get a bite that has that strong coffee flavor, which balances it all out👌.

So, do give the layered yummy goodness a try! As this layered dessert couldn’t be any prettier or tastier or healthier.

So the ingredients are
For the cake
1 Cup of  rolled oats
 3/4 Cup of almonds
1/2 cup of cane sugar or xylitol( I used 2/3 cups of jaggery powder)
80g of apple puree
1 egg
1/4 cup of any milk
1 tsp of baking powder
1/2 tsp of vanilla extract

 For the frosting
 500g of Greek yogurt
1 tsp of vanilla extract
3 tbsp of honey
1 small cup of  strong brewed coffee (chilled)
 Cocoa powder for dusting
Chocolate shavings (optional)

The steps are quite simple-

So in a blender,  we have to add the almonds and rolled oats and grind it to a flour. Now add the cane sugar/jaggery powder( my. Jaggery powder was a little clumpy so ground the oats, almonds and jaggery together ). Finally add the baking powder and keep the dry ingredients mix away.

Now add all the wet ingredients in a bowl and fold in the dry ingredients or use the  one bowl/blender by adding all the wet ingredients to the blender itself and give it a final blend just for the ingredients to mix well.

Pour the resulting batter into a  cake tray or a tray  lined with baking paper  and bake the  cake for 20 - 23 minutes in a pre-heated oven at 180 °C until golden.
An additional step I would suggest is brushing some brewed coffee  onto the cake at this stage also  as this will re- enforce the coffee flavour. Now keep the cake aside to cool.

For the frosting
Mix Greek yogurt honey and vanilla essence. Do adjust the tablespoons of honey as per the preference of sweetness ( I added around 4 to 5 tbsp)

For the Layering process

Important step is definitely the cake cooling down oresle when we cut it it will crumble. So once the cake is cooled cut the cake from the middle or cut square pieces of the cake which further will  be cut from the middle.
Now brush some brewed coffee in the middle layer, and spread a layer of the yogurt-cream.
Add the other half of the cake over the cream and again brush some brewed coffee and then with the yogurt-cream.

Finish the top layer off with some sprinkle of cocoa powder or even chocolate shavings.
And the healthy layered tiramisu cake is ready.  Keep it in the refrigerator and serve it cold.
